Senior Data Engineer

Lisbon

Job description

We are looking for a Data Engineer for a hybrid project in Lisbon.

You will support the Data & Analytics team of a financial institution based in Lisbon during the migration of its data engineering capabilities from Azure Synapse to Databricks. You will be hands-on and focused on execution, working within the established Data Vault architecture adopted by the group across bronze, silver, and gold layers.

This is a purely technical engineering role: the main objective is to accelerate the team's Databricks adoption and migration capabilities, requiring strong, hands-on Databricks expertise to reinforce the internal team's engineering capacity.

Goals and Deliverables:
  • Support the data engineering effort of migrating the existing Synapse-based architecture to Databricks, building and optimizing transformation pipelines across the Data Vault model's three layers: bronze (raw source data), silver (structured and processed data forming the data lake layer), and gold (business-ready, consumption-facing layer).
  • Support data governance capabilities as part of the engineering work, specifically data catalog and data lineage, ensuring governance is integrated into the new architecture.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with Databricks specifically, not only generic Spark/cloud data engineering (mandatory)
  • Strong Data Engineering background, with proven experience building and optimizing pipelines across layered/data lake architectures (mandatory)
  • Experience with data governance practices, including data catalog and data lineage implementation/management (mandatory)
  • Familiarity with Data Vault modeling (preferred)
  • Around 4–5 years of experience
  • Language: English required; Portuguese is a plus
  • Nice to have: experience with Databricks AI/ML capabilities (not a core requirement, purely a bonus)
