Java Developer (Spring Boot)

We are looking for a Java Developer (Spring Boot) to develop and maintain Java-based microservices, APIs, and business logic using Spring Boot. You will contribute to the design of scalable backend solutions, collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle, write automated tests, support technical documentation, and participate in incident analysis and resolution while ensuring secure, resilient, and observable applications. This is a hybrid position, requiring 3 days per week onsite in Alfragide. Candidates must reside in Portugal, have native Portuguese proficiency (C2), and possess a minimum English level of B2.

Requirements

• Mid-level experience in Java development.
  
• Strong knowledge of Java, including concurrency and memory management.
  
• Experience with Spring Boot (ideally the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Cloud).
  
• Experience developing microservices, REST APIs, and backend business logic.
  
• Understanding of distributed architectures and communication patterns (synchronous vs. asynchronous).
  
• Knowledge of resilience patterns such as retries, circuit breakers, fallbacks, and idempotency.
  
• Experience with relational, geo-distributed, and/or NoSQL databases.
  
• Experience with modern development practices, including Git, CI/CD, DevSecOps, code reviews, JUnit, Mockito, and Testcontainers.
  
• Experience with unit, integration, and contract testing.
  
• Ability to collaborate with Architecture, QA, SRE, Security, and Business teams.
  
• Experience contributing to technical documentation.
  
• Experience analysing and resolving incidents in development and QA environments.
  

Nice to Have

• Experience with cloud-native environments (Docker/Podman, Kubernetes, 12-factor applications).
  
• Knowledge of distributed and event-driven architectures.
  
• Experience with MongoDB, CockroachDB, or other NoSQL/NewSQL databases.
  
• Experience with observability practices (centralized logging, metrics, distributed tracing).
  
• Experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems.
  
• Previous experience with payment solutions or mission-critical financial systems.
  
• Knowledge of blockchain technologies and online/offline wallets.
